Cross-bordering areas pose extra challenges for automated mobility, but nonetheless, automated vehicles and their systems should work properly between different countries.
The Aurora Borealis cross-border corridor (Finland-Norway) is a northern place to test system capability when vehicles overpass the border. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has equipped 40 kilometres test section from Finnish border to Skibotn valley for the development and testing of ITS solutions in Norway. The road was selected for its socio-economic significance. It is a main road with demanding winter conditions and a large share of heavy vehicles; 26 percent of all traffic.
