Intelligent Road Aurora
Description
From a perception point of view, the road is easy to drive. It is straight, no big curves, neither gradients. There is one small bridge across a tiny river and an intersection of four roads. In the midday driving to the South, sunlight can blind cameras. Short rock walls section and some metallic barriers can be found along the route. The road is equipped by e.g. different road measurement sensors, road weather station, R&D weather station, and traffic flow camera. Positioning accuracy down to 5 centimetres. Road edges are covered by snow or higher snowbanks in winter from October until end of April.
In wintertime traffic signs can be snow covered partly or totally. Road lane markings are normally snow covered and not visible.
Road users vary between cars, heavy trucks, buses, and pedestrians. Especially in summertime there are vans, caravans, cyclists, and motorbikes. Pedestrians are using mainly sidewalks.
